The House mot sit 2 30. The Counties Act. Sir Ot. Grey presented a petition from fifty Road Boards north of Auckland, praying that the Counties Act 1876 be abolished, and that the Rating Act 1876 be amended so as to give Road Boards the option of rating upon acreage or valuation of land, <unl that the land be answerable for rates due thereon up to £10.
Questions. Replying to questions put it was stated that arrangements were being made for the establishment ot a system of exchange, by means of the money order system, between New Zealand and America. — ill information and correspondence relative to the movements of the Flying Squaddron had been laid before Parliament, and no fresh advices had been received relative to the change of programme, by which the squadron would not, as oiigiiwlly intended, visit New Zealand.
Town Districts Bill. The Town Districts Bill was introduced and read a first time.
Gaming Bill. The Gaming and Lotteries Bill was recommitted for further consideration of clause 15. Various amendments were made and proposed, after which the clause as amended was struck out on a division of 3S to 22. The bill was reported with further amendments, and on the motion for the third reading the House divided — Ayes, 40 ; noes, 20. The bill was read a third time and passed.
Deceased Cattle Bill. The Deceased Cattle Bill passed through committee, und was reported without amendment. The House adjourned at 5.30.
