TOWN OF KIHIKIHI HIGHWAY DISTRICT.
+ . The annual meeting of the ratepayers of the above district was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening at 6 p.m. Mr Louis Balliu was voted to the chair, and called upon the secretary to read the audited statement of accounts of the past year, which was as follows : — Receipts : Balance trom last year, £44 13s 5(1 ; Government grant, £8 13s 4d ; share of county fund, £12 17s 2d : Total, £93 10s 4d. Expenditure : Survey and construction, £4 10s Gd ; repairs and improvements, £54- 8s ; culverts and material, £3 10s 6d ; printing and advertising, £4 los ; collecting of rates, £l 2s 7d ; postage, stationery, etc., 8s 6d : Total, £6S los Id. Balance remaining, £25 13 3d. — Mr Corboy proposed, and Mr Tanner seconded, ''That the accounts be passed," which, on being pnt to the meeting, was carried unanimously. — The following ratepayers were then proposed, seconded, and declared duly elected trustees for the ensuing year : — Major Jackson, Messrs Farrell, Elmsley, Corboy, and Anderson ; auditors, Messrs Gordon and Donovan ; fence-viewers, Messrs Moncrieff and McKeown. — A rate of ninepence in the £ was decided on for the current year. If no decision be arrived at an early meeting of the new Board to sell the town acres of rate defaulters under the Act of 1876, such other legal measures as may be agreed to will be taken for the immediate recovery of all unpaid rates. — A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting. — At the first meeting of the new trustees, Major Jackson was reelected chaninan.
