President Gartield has suffered a relapse but one which proved only temporary. He is now again making" Satisfactory progress towards recovery. Lo^do^, July 10. A very excited feeling prevails throughout Arabia, and the authority of the Porte is openly defied. Mecca insurgents, in possession of the town, have defeated the troops sent against them, and 250 Turkish settlers have been captured and massacred in cold blood. The repressive measures against the Socialists in Germany are being strictly carried out at Leipsig. AJargenurnberof persons suspected of complicity with the Socialists of Germany have been arrested, and summarily expelled from the country. Intelligence from the West Coast of Africa states that bitter quarrels have arisen between the tribes, and fighting is imminent. The Governor of the Gold Coast Colony endeavoured to pacify the dispute, but -without success. .It is not thought that the British settlement is threatened. In, the vacation cricket match held at Cambridge, Ho we (one of the members of the University Eleven) made a brilliant score of 110, carrying his bat out. The total score of his side counted 414. The military system of England has been made the subject of discussion in the German Press* T\hich comments very favourably on ,the discipline, efficiency, and the martial attitude displayed by the volunteers as exhibited at the recent review held at Brighton. In addition to the grand review of volunteers held before the Queen *at Windsor, arrangements are being made for the holding of a review of Scotch regiments in Scotland.
