In the Council to-day, the Hon. Mr Whitaker promised the Hon. Mr Nurse an pnquiry into the accident on the Invercargill railway on Saturday last.

The Adoption of Children Bill and the Licensing Bills were read a second time The Inspection of Machinery Bill passed through committee, and progress v^as reported m the Dunnage Bill. The Council rose at 5 p.m.
