Steamer Ashore. Wellington, Last Night.

A telegram has been received that the steamer Wakatu is ashore at Patea. She was expected to be got off this morning.

Bad Weather i on the East Coast. The Penguin, which arrived from Napier after a passage of 39 hours, met with very heavy weather. One of the boats was carried off ,the stocks and stove in, rendering her useless, and damage was done to the skylight and part of the woodwork. The severity of the gale interferes with shipping business, and the departure of all small steamers is postponed. The Mohaka, which left Blenheim at midnight on Monday, has not yet arrived. It' is thought' ahe has taken shelter at Port Underwood.

Schooner Wrecked. The topsail schooner Maggie Patterson ran ashore at the Heads near the lighthouse. The pilot was unable to cross, owing to the heavy sea. A signal was hoisted from the scene that the crew were saved. She is 81 tons register, and insured in the "National for £120 Q, /of which £450 is reinsured in the New 1 Zealaiid.
