WAITOA HIGHWAY DISTRICT. Annual Meeting of Ratepayers.
The eighth annual meeting; of ratepayers was held on Saturday at the Nottingham Castle Hotel, Morrinsville, the gathering, owing to the execrable weather, being much smaller than for some years past, instead of, as was anticipated, being much greater. The chair was occupied by Mr F. Smalo, of M.iunijakawa. The Chairman of the outgoing Board, Mr W. P. ChepmelJ, read a most interesting annual report, explaining in detail the expenditure on the various wotks during the year. The expenditure during the present Board's term of office amounted to £1843 11s id. leaving a debit balance of some £20. Salaries, including engineer's commissions, amounted to £] 15. The report was considered most satisfactory by all present, and was adopted unanimously. Eight ratepayers were proposed as members for the ensuing year, and the poll showed the appreciation of the ratepayers of the work done during the last twelve months, the same members being returned at the head. The following shows the numborg polled: — Turnbull, 79; Chepmell, 78 ; Gould, 77 ; Parr, 77 : Hunt, 73 j Smale, 6 ; F. Itowe, 3 ; Smith, 0. Messrs A. Gubbins and Chohnondeley were elected auditors, and Messrs A. Gubbins and Burnett fenceviewers. It was proposed, seconded, and carried on the motion of Mr Cholmondeley, that the members of the Board be provided with dinners and horse feed at the ratepayers' expense on Board meeting days. At a meeting of the newly elected Board* held immediately after the annual meoting, Mr Chepmell was elected chairman, and Mr Gould treasurer.
