TAWHIAO'S VISIT TO CAMBRIDGE. (FROM OUR OWN REPORTER.)

It has now became highly problematical whether the Maori King will ever visit Cambridge at nil. Anyhow, it would seem from the repeated adjournments of his visit, that it was in every respect unlikely. The enthusiasm which has been manifested since the intended visit became known has almost died away, and the provisions which have been contributed by the townspeople and stored away in the Vubhc Hall have become somewhat seedy, highly coloured, and affected by the weather. The following is a copy of the telegram received by Mr Wells in Cambridge yesterday. " I hnve shown your telegran of this morning to Tawhiao. He is really too ill to travel in the present state of the weather. He is very sorry for the delay and trouble you have been put to, but he says it is not an expedition of strong men alone, for there are many old men and women and little children. 1 would' ask you also to bear in mind that were I to show a disposition to hurry the aftair through, I might defeat in a measure the good which I hope will result from this movement. No one could be more concerned than I am at the disappointment which the people of Cambridge have been occasioned. — W. G. Mair."
