Wellington, Last Night. M ihe Legislative Council to-day, the Hon. Mr Whitaker, replying to Colonel Brett, said that in filling up vacancies m the Civil Service, the Government gave preference to those who had suffered by the redactions. Replying to Dr Menzies, the Hon. Mr Whitedter said it was not likely that the * telegraph line would be extended to Fortrose, the necessity not justifying the expense. The Council rose at 3.20.
