RAGLAN.

Sudden Death of an old Settler. My pen is the bearer of mournful tidings. We have lost our worthy blacksmith. , For, nearly twenty years has Mr Gal van shod our horses, mended our' drays, and in other ways contributed to our convenience. When some of us were boys he was a man. We wondered at his prowess, and as we watched him, the cunning workman, " still the wonder grew." There is always something peculiarly solemn in the death of one who was a man when we were children, and to whom years taught us to look up, and death is especially solemn when it comes suddenly, for Mr Galvan died suddenly. On Wednesday last he was working in his < forge. Feeling unwell he went' into his house, and in about ten minutes was a corpse. On Thursday ah inquest 'was held upon ; the body, resulting in a verdict of "J)eath ( from natural causes." It appears deceased was troubled^because several of his sons were • concerned in the pig case, and 'tliia it is supposed led to his death. - To-day 1 funeral, tqok,, place. , Deceased ,wa* a, rniSmb^r, of ihe , Church of Jlome.^ The funeral' service wag therefore conduc&ed by Fatner.'Mcfc/ 6f • Hamilton, who deserves pTaiBB for! coming so far to oblige the bereaved jfamiLy,-rl (typ Corteopon;dent, July lat, 1981.)
