Fighting 'between the French and Arab Tribes. Pabis, June 30. Telegbams are to hand from Tunis announcing that hostilities have occurred at 'Sfax, a seaport town on the Tunisian cdast, between a detachment of ' French troops and Arab tribes resident there. The trqopß had teen despatched to quell the rising of the tribes which recently broke out in the Sfax district. On their landing at the port, they were fired upon by the Arabs who had gathered in force to' oppose their debarkation. The troops returned the fire, which was kept up for some time, but the Arabs were finally driven back. Several on both' sides were -wounded, including the Frenoh Consul, who was landing with the troops.
The Australian and New Zealand , Mails. London, July 2, Tho homeward Australian and New Zealand mails, which left Auckland on the 24th May, were delivered to-day.
The Irish Land, Question. London, July 2. In the House of ' Lords a lengthy debate took place on the subject of, the report. of the Commission appointed at the instance of Earl Bessborough to enquire into the Irish Land Question recently tabled. The Duke of Argyle characterised theireport.as one-sided ; and altogether unreliable, and censured its recommendation, in warm terms.
