THE CAMBRIDGE -TE AWAMUTU S WA MP RO A D.
The following is the text of a peti■jT tion which lias been forwarded to the member for Waipa, (F. A. Whitaker, E«q.,) by the Pukekura Highway Board : — Sir, — We are requested by the Pukekura Highway District Board to bring before you notice as our representative, the following facts, in reference to the main road, connecting Cambridge with Rangiaohia, &c, known as the Swamp Road. 1. That five miles of this road is entirely swamp, entailing great expense in the making of it. 2. That the Pukekura Highway Board have already expended a large sum of money, amounting to several hundreds of pounds, in opening up this road. 3. That in order to make this road passable during all seasons of the year, a sum of nwney estimated at a thousand pounds, (£1000) is still required to be spent upon it, i, That the funds at the disposal of the Board, are insufficient to enable it to carry through this work unassisted. 5. The Board would draw your attention, and that of the Government, to the fact that were the road placed in a thorough state of repair, it would prove of immense convenience to the settlers of the two Counties, and also be the means of facilitating the development of the country to a very large extent. 6. That considering the importance of this road, as a military route, connecting as it does, two of the frontier settlements, the Board request you to urge upon the Government, the consideration of this > matter. (Signed) Rhjhd. Reynolds, Chairman, i ' Wm. Tucker, Trustee.
