The Harbour Works. New Plymouth, Last Night. The New Plymouth Harbour Board took over from the engineer his contract for harbour works this morning.
Native Meeting. A large native meeting will be held at Parihaka shortly. Natives are out shooting wild birds for it.
Discovery of Two Skeletons. Napieh, Last Night. In removing a cottage in the town two skeletons were unearthed, They are supposed by their as*e to be bones of natives.
Suicide by Hanging. Dttnedin, Last Night. An aged man named York committed suicide by hanging at Bavenabourne,
An Infant Found Dead. The pod mortem examination on an infant found dead yesterday, shows that it wa3 born healthy, and died of exposure.
Otago Educational Institute. The office-bearers of the Otago" Educational Institute have been instrdpted to take measures to make a colonial^matitution. , *, mk
Customs Returns. The Customs revenue for the past six months is £207,374 against £182,920 for the corresponding half year of 1880.
The Unemployed. Mr Stout, at the request of the unemployed, telegraphed to the Premier suggesting the desirability of work being found for them. Mr Hall replied :— " Very sorry to learn from your telegram that employment is so scarce, but Government have no works which could offer for employment, but will be readyto assist benevolent comrtiitteeB if' neces« sary.
Frozen Meat ProcessWellington, Last Night. A meeting of gentlemen interested in the export of frozen meat and dairy produce was held in the Parliamentary Building this afternoon^ Several members of Parliament were present. It was decided to form a company- with a capital of £20,Od0*in £5' shares." Ii; was proposed to register the company as soon, as 10,000 shares were applied for.' ' It is intended to make arrangements^ for i as many cargoes as possible in autumn, 1882. A large and influential provisional directory waB appointed to take steps for the successful floathiig'of the company.
