THE KIHIKIHI SCHOOL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — On perusing your columns of Tuesday last, I observed a report of the public meeting held in the school building on Saturday night. As an eyewitness of the fact, I must say that I never came across a greater piece of unjust nonsense or base fabrication before. With regard to the meeting being admirably well attended, there was truly twenty-one all told Of that number seven had children .attending school. I may state that the whole business of the meeting was done by four conspicuous individuals who proposed, seconded, and carried everything before them. With respect to the legality of the meeting, my impression is that it was a work of driving rough shod over the committee by those individuals who are determined to drive the people of Kihikihi before them, and I feel certain that the Board of Education will not recognise people acting in this way against their com- ! mittee in violation of tho Act. If the committee' had been requested to call this meeting, no doubt they would have done so. These things would have told a different tale. As I happen to know the members of the committee, I can state as facts that this Gordon that took the chair is not Chairman -of the Committee, lie having resigned , hiSj office in writing on the 28th of last-February. With respect to,the man Tss?ni^.who is sppken.of in such, t glowing^nr^imy; impression i is, that if anyo^efpf b.a<l ' half the prjjncjjilea that he has, got, at, ■woujki W b^to^f^^hejn,. I^nj npt' in
the least surprised at the acerbity of your correspondent, as I know that he is a bitter enemy of Thomas's, and that without cause. Consequently bigotry is blind to justice. In my opinion he has been malevolently striving to show this man up, and in his vehement arrogance has blindly turned the bullying part of it on to himself, and I may say that two-thirds of the statement made in his report was never used at the meeting. After all, there is not one particle of a bona flde manly charge against the committee. The reading of the report and the whole tone of the business of the meeting shows nothing more than a piece of zealous envy, like school boys that have lost their favourite toys. One thing is evident, that they have a certain person by the nose, and are using him to suit their own envious purposes. In conclusion, I believe the present members of the School Committee to be a most respectable body of men — the first, Mr Anderson, of tbeKihikihi Hotel, respected by all who know him as a straightforward just man ; Mr Tristram, the father of a large family, who has been awarded a silver medal for eighteen years' unblemished character in the army, as well as being an old resident in Kihikihi since the war ; Mr Blincowe, the father-in-law of Sergeant Cooper, of the A.C. Force, with a troop of sweet little grandchildren about his knee, and held in the highest esteem by all around him. The unfortunate Thomas, whose greatest crime is being a new chum in Kihikihi, and having no acres ; the other is honest Joe, from Yorkshire, which number makes up the present committee. Shame on the creatures who would maliciously strive to sully the characters of those good men to satisfy their own ire. By inserting the above you will be doing justice man to man. — I am, &c, Livk and Let Live.
