EDGAR J. MONTROSE.

TO TIIK EDITOR. Sir, — I have rear! the Leader in this morning's Times, and think the facts of the case represented very faithfully. There is one strange coincidence in this case, which lias, perhaps, not struck you, and it is this, vit. : the Defendant paid the 30s a week into Court on the strength of Ivess evidence, which evidence said that Edgar would be worth more than 30s a week, if taken xm the tfaff at Cambridge ; and that the six months apprenticeship was wtyh a view of getting proper 1 reporter's salary afterwards. Query? How did the Defendant J,now that the- Magistrate was going to ignore this and the evidence of tiro other disinterested witnaiea ? )Vhy did he not produce the evidence, oh the strength of which he obtained the first adjournment to prove that Edgar was worth only 30s ? I say the Defendant did not take the usual precautions of producing stronger evidence than the plaintiff, and yet wedeedb equally as well! These are most suggestive facts. In conclusion, Sir, let me congratulate you ony s ' our manly, outspoken utterances, "arid ' the honourable ' stand you have' taken in defending the cause that lacks assistance. — Yours, &c, Oxe who was Preset in Court. Cambridge, June 24, 1881.
