WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

TilK Waipa County Council held their regular meeting at tin chambers, Ohanpo, on Tuesday, June 14, the following Councillors being present. Mr Aubin, (chairman), C'rs. Corboy, Reynolds, Buttle, WainwWcht, Steele, Hadfield, Cunningham and Koche. The Clr-ik having read the minutes, O. Corboy objected that tlicy wcic inacciuate, as a motion was omitted and the amendment appealed as the motion in the question of the Ngaruawahia feny. Ultimately the minutes weie continued as lecorded, without alteration. The outwaid correspondence was read and approved. Tlic correspondence leeeived was read as folllows :—: — A telegram having been received from the Ng.uuawnhia Town Boaid applying for the gt ant for the fei ry. Cr Steclo proposed "That the money be paid forthwith." — Agreed. A second communication was read from the same Boaid, asking for an addition to the amount granted. Cr. Corboy proposed "That a further sum of £20 be gi anted to the Ngamavahia Town Board m order to deft ay e\penses of establishing a punt at that place, as agreed to at a previous meeting of the Council." Cr. Hadfield seconded the motion pio forma, so as to allow the matter to be discussed. As an amendment, Cr. Buttle proposed and Or. Steele .seconded, "That the Ngaruawahia Town Board be advised to apply to the Raglan County Council foi any further amount they may require to defray expenses of establishing the punt at Ngaiuawahia, this Council having done its share of the same " As a further amendment Cr. Cunningham proposed "That no further money be expended on the punt and approaches across the Waipa at Ngaruawahia unless an equal sum be granted by the Raglan County Council, or other local body on the opposite side." This motion failing a seconder, Cr., Buttles amendment was put, with the following result : — For the amendment, Crs., Reynolds, Cunningham, Buttle, Wainwright, Steele, Hadfield and the chairman. Against, Cr. Corboy. The amendment was carried. A letter was received from the Hamilton Free'Biidge Committee, asking the co-operation of the Council. Cr. Cunningham pioposed, and Cr. Corboy seconded — "That a letter be sent to the Secretary thanking the meeting for the honor done to the Council in placing their Chairman's name on the committee, and pledging this Council to forward the objects of the meeting by all j means in their power." As an amendment, Cr. Steele proposed, and Cr. Hadfield &ecouded — "That the receipt of the letter lie acknowledged, but to decline any lesponsibility, or to allow the Chirman's name to remain on the committee, or in any way to compromise this Council." For the amendment : Cts. Steele and Hadfield. Against : Crs. Reynolds, Cunningham, Buttle, Wainwright, and Corboy. The amendment was therefore lost. On the motion being put the same votes were lecorded, and it was declared carried. A circular was recched from the Rangitikei County Council upon the qVicstion of local go\ eminent. \ Cr. Reynolds proposed, and Cr. Buttle seconded — "Tliat this Council agrees with the Rangitikei County Council and their views as expressed in circular." Carried. Circulars were also received from the Wairoa and Afanawatu County Councils upon the same question. The Clerk wns instructed to acknowledge receipt of same. According to notice, Cr. Corboy proposed — "That all revenue arising from license fees, dog tax, and land sales (if any), be distributed among the various districts in the county, in proportion as each contributes to the county fund from these sources, after deducting a necessary amount for the Council's expenses." -•Cr. "Wainwright seconded the motion. Cr. Cunningham proposed, as an amendment— " That the part relating to the laud sales be omitted." Failing a seconder, the motion was put and resulted as follows :— For the motion : Crs;' Wainwright, Corboy, Cunningham, Against: Cr.«. Roche, Reynolds, Buttle, and Hadfield. The motion was therefoie lost. , Accozding to notice, Cr. Cunningham

proposed— " That out of the first funds at the disposal of the Connci], a sum of £100 be granted to the Pukekura Highway Board for the purpose of gravelling that part of the road in the Rangiaohia district between Fleming's corner and the Ohaupo railway station. Cr. Reynolds seconded the motion. As an amendment, Cr. Roche proposed, and Cr. Wainwright seconded — "Tliftfc £50 be spent on the road to Fleming's comer." The motion as amended was then put ' and the votes were — For the motion : Cra. Roche, Reynolds, Buttle, Wainwright, and Cunningham. Against : Crs. Hadfield, Corboy, and Anbin. The amended motion was therefore declared carried. Cr. Cunningham moved "That at tha next meeting of the Council the Clerk be directed to lay on the table a return hhowing the amount of land revenue, licensing fees, and dog tax derived from each neperate highway district in the county since the Ist January, 1879." The Clerk reported that the required information had been sent for. but had not arrived yet. Payment was ordered of accounts amounting to £91 19s 6d, and the ordinary meeting closed.

Special Meeting. The special meeting having beeu called, Crs. Corboy Wainwright, Buttle, Roche, Rcynalds, Cunningham, Hadfield, and were piesent. The Ulerk laid on the table the papers and plans of roads closed in the Pukekimi Distiict. Cr. Buttle proposed, Cr. Corboy seconded, " That the action of the Pukekura District Board in closing roada be confirmed." Carried unanimously. According to notice, Cr. Roche moved Cr Buttle seconded, "That by-law No. 1, subjection 3 be repealed." In suppoit of the motion Cr Roche urged that the council would thereby have greater freedom than at present. The. votes were, for the motion 1 Crs. Roche, Buttle, Waiuwritrhfc,, and Roynolds. Against : Crp. Corboy, Hadfield, and Cunningham. Motion earned. This concluded the business, and the Council rose.
