PROFESSOR HASELMAYER.
Professor and Madame Haselmayer opened last night at the Oddfellows' Hall, Hamilton East. The Hall was well filledm every part by a very appreciative audience. The performance, we do not hesitate to say, was one of the best of the kind we have had the pleasure of witnessing, and many of the tricks of legerdemain are equal to anything of those exhibited by the celebrated "Wizard of of the North," Professor Anderson. The card tricks,, the wizard drum, the eggproducing bag, the raiser's hat, and many others, are each as the showmen say, worth the money paid at the door, but these are only a few of the attractions, and perhaps not the best. The performing canaries and white mioe form an entertainment in themselves, and were the special delight of the juvenile portion of the audience. The stylocarfe, an instrument invented by the Professor, was introduced, and upon it he played a series of tunes, including a raedly of national airs with great sweetness and expression, and received the hearty plaudits of the audience. Madame Haselmayer accompanied on the pianoforte, and during the evening played numerous selections upon the same instrument. Altogether, the performance is well worth going to see. The Professor performs at Hamilton again tonight, and at Cambridge to - morrow night, and Saturday
Italy opens the year 1881 under happy auspices ; no foreign or internal difficulty troubles her. The jvnv'a harvest has been abundant, and the commercial and financial receipts* show a steady increase." The Christmas decorations in Eosrland this year wore by no means po effective as usual, owing to the scarcity of holly berries, in which crop there has been a complete failure.
