KIHIKIHL. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

At a meeting of the Kihikihi Town Board held here on Wednesday last, the action of the Kangiohia Board in selling privately, and without having the courtesy to acquaint the Kihikihi Board, or the ratepayers concerned, a portion of timber on the reserve in this neighbourhood, and specially set apart for this town to a sawmill company, who are carting the principal jJart of it away to Cambridge, caused just indignation, But by far the most reprehensible part of the affair is, that a trustee of the Board implicated, was, it is said, also cutting and trading in the timber of this reserve. The thanks of the settlers here are due to the Kihikihi Board for the prompt measures taken in communicating with the authorities, and so stopping further underhand operations with the timber. It may be remembered that when the Catholic church was being built here a short time ago, a considerable quantity of its timber and material were stolen night after night. Well, the building of the Church of England is now m progress, and this, also, has a fair share of nightly visits. To give the rogues their due, they are keeping within the bounds of "modiin thought," in this : that they have no particular leaning for one denomination more than another. The unfortunate conti actor has had to appeal to Constable Gillies, who, it is hoped, Avill soon interview and remove fioin our midst individuals who deem it a virtue to rob a church. Our new settler, the chief Eewi, is a most cautious, far-seeing and sensible man. I may mention, as an instance of my assertion, that he has just insured his house and furniture here in the Victoria for £800.
