RUMOURED NATIVE DISTURBANCE AT ROTORUA.

It has been currently rumored that' Mr G-wynneth and staff had been driven off the land where they were surveying at Rotorua, and also that disturbances had taken place between Oook and Stubbing'a party and the natives at Waotu, but fortunately the whole affair is a rumor, or at least very much exaggerated. The circumstances which gave birth to the report are simply these : — Cook and Stubbing's party are at present surveying the Waotu block, which borders on the Whakamaru block, and this latter they intend to proceed with next, > Some natives who, it is said, have vested interests' in the Whakamaru block, ' are watching the proceedings of the survey party, whom, it is said, they intend to stop when they commence with the Whakamaru. It is questionable whether they will do so or not, it being more likely from their present conduct that they have merely come to see that the surveyors do not go beyond their limit and that their interests are not encroached upon. These natives are from Rotorua^ and are the owners of the land whjch Gwynneth's party are at present surveying. Since they left Rotorua for Whakamaru, surveying operations have bfeen suspended, and until they return to show the surveyors over the ground nothing can be done. Mr Gwynneth is at present in Cambridge, and will return to the camp in a few days.
