WAI PA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tde Waipa County Conncil held a special meeting at the Chambers, Ohaupo, on Tuesday, May 24th. The Councillors present were Crs. Buttle, Corboy, Hadfield, Steele, Reynolds, and Cunningham, and the following business was transacted. Ihe Chairman (Cr. Aubin) being absent, Cr. Reynolds proposed, and Cr. Hadfield seconded— "That Cr. Buttle do take the chair. " Carried. Cr. Buttle having taken the chair, the Clerk read the annual statement of accounts. Cr. Steele proposed and Cr. Hadfield seconded — "That the statement be adopted as correct. " Carried. Cr. Hadfield proposed, according to notice— "That a. bye-law be adopted to the following effect : —No motion once rejected by the Council shall be again brought up for consideration, or any otiier motion of a similar effect, within six months of such rejection, unless with the unanimous consent of the Council." Cr. Hadfield thought such a bye-law was required, as much valuable time was wasted by the continual bringing up of motions on which the Council had previously given an opinion. Cr. Corboy secouded. Cr. Buttle approved the motion. If the Council had erred in the past, it would show wisdom to amend. Cr. Steele thought the motion reflected on the past action of Councillors, and that the bye-laws in force were sufficient to meet any such case. Cr. Cunningham would oppose the motion ; the point of it was obvious, and he could not agree to what was a vote of censure. On being put to the vote, the result was : — For the motion : Crs. Hadfield, Corboy, and Buttle. Against : Crs. Steele, Reynolds, and Cunningham. The Chairman gave the casting vote for the motion, and it was declared carried. This concluding the business of the special meeting, the Council rose.
