Destructive Fire at Timaru. [BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION ] Timaru, Sunday.
\ most destructive fire ocourrpd here last night, by which Bruoe's Wait.mgi Flour Mills were almost totally de-tioyed. The fire was first noticed in the top of the fourth Htory, and in half an hour the whole mill was in flames. It was erected about three years ago, at a cost, including machinery, of £12,000, and with the stock of wheat, flour, &c, inside the loss is estimated at £16,000 or £17,0U0. The insurances, &o far as ib known, i>nly itnount to £7000, as follows :— New Zealand, €3000 ; Union, £2000 ; ' iverpool and Lancashire, £1000 ; South British, £1000. Fortunately the nisrht was beautifully Cilm, or otherwise the extensive sawmills adjacent would have been destroyed. The boiler and cylinders alone were saved. There is not the slightest clue as to the oiigin of the fire.
