Sir Wm .Fox's Temperance Prizes. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Last Night.
The examination in temperance lesson book for Sir Wm. Fox's pmes is to take place in December, 1882. Four examination districts are constituted ; one prize being given to each of the following districts : — Wellington, Wanganui, Hawke's Bay, and Taranaki. These aie to form the North Island district, containing 11,569 children. According to the working average for the December quarter of 1880, the North Canterbury district, excluding the counties of Tuapeka, Bruce, and Clutha, contained 12,544 children, and Westland, South Canterbury, Southland, Bruce, Tuapeka, and Clutha counties, 12,331 children. The examination is to be conducted by printed papers, supplied from here and submitted to examiners appointed by Mr Fox. The Auckland, Marlborough, and Nelson Boards refused to have anything to do with the competition.
