CANTERBURY CENSUS RETURNS. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Christchurch, Last Night
A portion of the census returns publishes the following totals for the principal districts of the provincial district : — Electoral districts of City of Christchurch, 30,972, being an increase of 6000 on returns for IS7S : Lyttelton electoral district, 4127, being an increase of 651 ; Sydenham, 8459, being an increase of 1949; Heathcote, 11,631, being an in2333 ; Selwyn, 6196, being an increase of 525 ; Akaroa, 613, being an increase of 29. The Borough of Sydenham, though shown separately, is also included in the electoral district of the City of Christchurch. The agricultural returns for the electoral districts of Kaiapoi, Ashley, and Cheviot shows 24,970 acres in wheat, estimated to yield 5*20,286 bushels ; 16,049 acres in oats, estimated to yield 381,133 bushels ; 3,566 acres of barley, estimated to yield 89,595 bushels ; 1491 acres in potatoes, estimated to yield 7409 tons.
