OHAUPO LIVE STOCK SALE. Messrs. W. J. Huntpr & Co. report that they held a sale of cattle, sheep, &c, at the Ohaupo yards on Thursday. There was a. good attendance of buyers and a fair muster of stock, principally fat cattle and c.ittlc in forward condition. There was a demand for young stock, but none were yarded. A l.injc number of both fat and store shcop were offered. They quote dairy cows at from L 6 ios to L 7 15s ; two and a-half-ycar-old steers, in forward condition, from L 4 to* to L 5 12* Od; yearling steers, La 15s to L 3; fat cows and heifers, L 4 ios to L 6; fat steers, L 6 to L 7 ss; fat bullocks, L 7 15s to Lll ss ; 200 store wethers, 9s 3d to 9s 6d ; f.it wethers, 8s to 13s ; fat lambs, 9s gd each ; fat ewes, us each ; young pigs, 8s each.
AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET. Mr Alfred Buckland's Weekly Report.— At Mr A. Buckland's sale at the Greyhound Yards on Friday, April 29, fooder was very plentiful, oaten and meadow hay fetching from 2s 66. to 3s qd per cwt. ; barley 2s 6d, and maize 2s 5d per bushel. A limited number of horses yarded. Light-harness horses and hacks bringing from £7 to £13; medium draught, unbroken, £16 to £n. The racehorses Mctau, Morning Star, ana My Dream were offered, but not fetching satisfactory prices, were passed in. M.itau was afterwards sold to Mr C. Quick for £tBo.— At the Haymarkct. on Tuesday, hides brought from 3d to 3|d the lb. ; sheepskins, is 3d to 2s <d each; greasy wool in small parcels, 6Jd to 7jd thelb. : tallow, 20s to 22s the cwt. — The regular sale at Pukekoho. on Monday last, was faUly supplied with stock. Cows near calving and fat cattle were in good demand at full prices, but young cattle were dull of sale. — At the special sale at Mr John Smith's, on Wednesday, there Was an unusually large attendance, with steady bidding, and tatssfectory prices throughout, particularly for the draught horse stock, those being Inown rood worker* were eagerly competed for.—At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cattle at then calviog were in brisk inquiry ; store cattle
plentiful, principally young 1 stork, they were dull of sale, .md seveial puns withdrawn. Fat rattle were also in full suppl\, and of vriy \ .triable quality. Young and inferior cattle were at comparative low ''allies, but well-fatted steer 1 , were steady at 275, and 111 several instance! readied 30 s tl» l * loolhs. About the usual number was entered at the Durham Yards on Friday. For weedy animals bidd'nt* was slow, but for good \ouncf horses brisk, and on the whole s lies were satisfictory to vendors. There was no noteworthy alteration in value. — Wool, Hides, and Skins : There has been an increased supply, md steady demand. Calfskins sold at 3d per lb. ; hides, -j§d ; skins, from is id to 3s sd each ; wool, bags, in grease, 6?d. — Cattle : There has been quite an average amount of business done. The demand has been steady. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, the supply for the butchers w-ai an average one, but was scarcely up to requirements, Dairy and store stock were in rather limited numbers at Newmaiket, but there was a laigc muster at Papakuia. There was a good attendance of buyers, and competition was qpiiitcd throughout the sale. We quote • Dairy co>vs, trom £7 15s to £\\ ;calvcs, from £1 2s to £2 4s; yearlings, from £2 10s to £2 17s 6dj two-year-old steers, £3 15s to £4 7s 6d ; grown steers, £5. Beef, 26s to 30s per loolbs — Sheep; At Newmarket, on Tuesday, no store sheep were yarded, but the butchers' pens were filled. The demand was good, and prices were firm at last week's quotations. A few lambs were penned, and sold at from 13b to 13 9d. — Pigs • Very few yarded.
THAMES CATTLE MARKET. Messrs. B.mks and Co.';. Weekly Report, — At the cattle market, at Parawai on 1 hursj.iy the cntreis of fat and store c.nttlc wore more numerous than usual. Mr, Jordan's draft of oxen and cows, though fresh off the journey from Tauranga, were in good condition.^ and were freely competed for. A few of the primest quality advanced somewhat on late prices. A pair of good working bullocks brought £15 •, cows in low condition, £4 12s 6d to £$ S!>. Sheep, though not numerous, were sufficient for requirements, and without alteration in value. Two young and active ponies realised £6 and £10 2!> 6d respectively. Prices for the best beet were from 20s> to 27>= 6d : second class, 24s to 25s per loolbs. ; mutton, 2J4pcr lb.
