The ÜBual monthly meeting of theßangaohia Road Board was held at Lewis's hotel on Saturday April 30th, at which Messrs Walton (chairman), Whltefield, Bond, Johns, and Carley, were present. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, the Chairman reported that the Minister for Public WorkrWM 1 declined all the tenders for metaUjng !he station road, as they were much iti'lxceßS of the estimated cost, and that having been reque&ted to call a public meeting, he telegraphed the Minister, and had writter to Mr Wnitaker, M.H.R., enquiring 1 what was intended to be done, as the road would he impassable in a few vreeka, and that the Minister had replied that the District Engineer had been instructed to proceed with the work at once to the extent of £300, reducing thickness and width of the metal ho as to make the amount available go as far as possible. Upon which it was resolved that the chairman should again telegraph to the Minister that the natural formation of the road was too soft for a reduced quantity of metal to be of any use, and that if the Minister would place £400 to the credit of the Board, and convey material freight free, as offered to the tenderers, the Board would complete the road under the direction of the District Engineer.
