SPORTING.
Foot Race. The race between W. Hyde (Hamilton), and Daley (Auckland) for £20a-side, distance one mile, came off on Saturday lastj on the Piako racecourse. A considerable number of people attended, and betting was freely indulged in. The event however, proved an easy victory for Hyde, who led from the start, and never gave his opponent a chance.
South. Canterbury Races. The following are the acceptances and general entries for the South Canterbury Jockey Club Races :— Tim art; Cup. — Sir Modred, Hilarious, Randwick, JSatator, Libeller, Lady Emma. S.C.J.O. Handicap. — Joker, Hilarious, Sir Garnet, Randwick, The Poet, Libeller, Billingsgate, Lady Emma, Luhna. Flying Handicap.— Joker, Hilarious, Sir Garnet, Randwick Hilda, Libeller, Billingsgate, Lady Emma, Luna. Hurdle Race. — sailor Boy, Winfield, Miio, Agent, Clarence. Trial Stakes. — Romeo, Joker, Nautilus, Sir Garnet, Hilda, Prophet, Seven Bells.
