R. M. COURT, CAMBRIDGE. Friday, April 22.— [Before H. W. Northcrort, Esq., R.M.]

Horse Stealing. Ngawaka, a native, was charged with stealing a horse, the property ot another native named Ratema ; and after hearing evidence, His Worship committed prisoner for trial.

Assaulting a Constable. A native named Hikihi Waretini was charged with having on the 18th April unlawfully assaulted and resisted Constables Brennan and Westley in the execution of their duty. Constable W. Brentian deposed that the accused was in Duke-street on Monday evening, and appeared to be wanting to fight some one. Told him to get away home. Accused turned on him in a very bouncible manner and told him to clear out, that no policeman in Cambridge could arrest him. Some of the Maori's friends came and told him he had better go away. Witness again advised him to go away. Accused went and sat down against Mr Rose's window. Again told accused's friends to take him away, and he came over to witness and said, "You lock me up ? No man in Cambridge can lock me up." With assistance of Constable Westley, got accused in charge, when he resisted violently. Got him about fifty yards along Duke-street, when he struck Constable Westley on the face, threw him down, and fell on top of him. With difficulty managed to handcuff him, when he fell down and pretended to be dead. Had to put him in a wheelbarrow, and altogether it took an hour to convey him to the lock-up. Fined £5 and £1 3s 6d costs, or in default, to be imprisoned for two months.

Breach of the Vagrant Act. Tarati Huata was charged with disorderly conduct opposite the Criterion Hotel in Duke-street, and with a breach of the Vagrani Act. Mr B. C. Dyer appeared for the defence. The charge was proved, and prisoier was fined £3, and coats (£3 9s), in default two months imprisonment. The prisoner brought a cross information againsc Mr Hewitt.—Mr Dyer appeared for the complainant, and Mr Beale for the defence—which was dismissed, His Worship giving the prisoner a severe lecturing.

Civil Side, A large number of civil oases were disposed of.
