WAIHOU PUNT CHARGES.

' ' TO THB EbITOB. Si&,~As there are two sides to every question, will you kindly spare me enough of your valuable spice to reply to" Mr Cumtning's pitiful complaint of my charges by the punt across the Waihou. In the first place the punt is my own, and I am entitled to any fair charge I may make. My usual charge for passengers is 6d per head, not by any means an exorbitant charge, and for horses or luggage I charge according to the amount of labor required. Mr Cumraing on Friday morning required a , buggy and pair ferried over, and my charge was only 2s. He refused payment unless I summoned him ; and as be was disagieeable and inclined to be pompous, I was not inclined to be knocked up at 1 o'clock in the morning to bring the gentleman back again the next night, without insisting that he should pay me my price, and I charged him 7s 6d. Considering the work to be done, and the hour, this is not an out of the way charge for punting a buggy and pair across the river. Aid if Mr Cumming, or any gentleman of like pretensions objects to it, by all means let him get a bridge over the Waihou for his next visit, and I for one shall be only too happy to praise his generosity as much as I am now obliged to blame his meanness, — I am, &c, William Parker. Te Aroha.
