Wellington, Last Night.

At the Magistrate's Court this afternoon, John fienry^ Whitelaw, superintendent of the Mount View Asylum, was committed for trial for ill-treating a patient named Mclntosh. Bail was fixed at— himself in £300, and two sureties of £150 each. Accused, however, was unable to obtain bail, and was conveyed to the gaol. Instructions have been issued to the Deputy Property Tax Coimnissioners throughout the colony to take proceedings against defaulters. The Long Brothers, who, it is alleged, intended absconding from their creditors at Picton, were brought up at the Magistrate's Court to-day, and remanded to Picton. '
