TE AROHA PUNT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — Punt matters at Te Aroha are very much in need of regulating. The other morning when crossing over from thia side I was charged two shillings for buggy and ponies. Coming back the amicable youth in charge would not put me across, or even allow the buggy to be put on board, until he got seven shillings and sixpence, because hia shimbers were disturbed. In addition to this, there is ' eighteenpfence or two shillings for assistance in getting buggy on and off the rickety concern, by courtesy called a „ punt, bringing the total cost for going and 1 returning to about thirteen shillings. If ' the scale of charges depends on, or is , regulated by the mood this man Parker may be in, the sooner, such, a state of things is altered the better. I have been informed that it is hia private property, tut can scarcely believe this to be correct that a private punt would foe allowed to ply at an important public crossing, without any restrictions as to charges or ,< . the conVeniencp of the public— lam, &c, Wm, Gumming,
