ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
A .man named Bowman, a mechanical engineer, attempted to poison himself by swallowing a quantity of laudanum at the residence of his wife, in Auckland, on Tuesday afternoon. Bowman has been separated from his wife for some time, and has contributed nothing to her support or the children, of which there were two, between the ages of 6 and 4. On the afternoon in question he proceeded to the house, forced his way upstairs to his wife, and took the poison in front of her. The poor woman immediately sent for the police, who had Bowman conveyed to the hospital, where he was speedily attended to, and it is believed that no dangerous consequences will ensue. The cause of the rash act is supposed to be that lie intended to frighten his wife in order to bring about a reconciliation of married relations.
