WAI PA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Waipa County Council was held at the Chambers Ohaupo, on Tuesday, April 12th, the following Councillors being present— Mr Aubin, (Chairman), Crs. Corboy, Hadfield, Roche, Steele, Buttle, and Cunningham. The minutes of last meeting being read, Cr Buttle objected thatCr Cummingham's amendment of the last meeting, was more correctly a separate motion, this view was concurred in by several of the councillors, but the minutes were confirmed as they stood. The correspondence of the month was thus disposed of, viz. An application was received from the Ngaruawahia Town Board for the Whatawhata punt. Cr. Cunningham mored "That the Council should establish a ferry at Ngaruawahia, the cost of approaches not to exceed £30, the Board to keep punt and approaches in repair after completion." Cr. Roche moved as an amendment "That the Council hand over the Whatawhata punt to the Board and make a special grant of £10 towards the expenses." Crs. Cunningham, Roche, Hadfield, and Corboy voted for the amendment, and Crs. Buttle and Steele against. Amendment carried. The Clerk was directed to notify the Board to take charge of the punt as soon as the bridge is formally opened. Mr Fitzgerald wrote complaining of "the intrusion of othpr registrars into his district, and the Council refused to interfere. The Te Rare ferryman wrote, offering to work the ferry until the opening of the bridge for traffic. The Council agreed to pay £5 for working the punt until the bridge is open. A letter was received from Messrs Whitaker and Sheehan, on behalf of Mr Limmer, of Whatawhata, claiming JE2S as damage through the loss of a horse by , drowning at the ferry.

The Gonncil refuted to acknowledge the claim, a: no authority bad been given to move the ferry boat. The Piako County Council asked for the refunding of some dog registration fees obtained for dogs belonging to the Piako County. Cr. Steele moved. "That the letter be acknowledged, refusing to refund, the Council not being empowered to extend the time for registration until the 2nd of March." Cr. Roche moved as an amendment, "That the money be refunded." The motion was carried. The Registrar for the Mangapiko wrote asking the Council to refund amount of costs in late proceedings under the " Dog Registration Act." Cr. Cunningham being of the opinion that the Registrar had good grounds for the prosecution, notwithstanding that the case had broken down moved, " That a sum not exceeding £5 be paid Mr Maunder for expenses incurred in prosecuting Messrs. Southey and Macfarlane for breach of " Dog Registration Act, this not to be considered as establishing a precedent." Carried. The Clerk to the Waikato Counoil, wrote requesting the enforoing of the Slaughter-house Act. The t-ouncil refused to take any action. Notifications were received from the Treasury of the payment of £40 3s 9d refunding of Waip* ferry charges £4 10s License fees and £218 Us lOd subsidy. Cr. Buttle moved that th» correspondence from the Wairoa County Counoil beheld over till the special meeting in May. Carried. ' , Cr. Cunningham moved according to notice " That out of the first funds at th« disposal of the Council a sum of £100 be granted to the Pukekura Board to graTel that portion of the road in the Rangiaohia district between Fleming's corner and the Ohaupo railway station." Cr. Roche moved as an amendment " That the sum of £50 be handed over to the Pukekura Board for gravelling the road to Fleming's corner, and £50 be applied to opening a road to the Lake Railway Station." The amendment not being seconded, the motion was put. For : Messrs Cun* ningham, Buttle and Steele. Against : Crs. Roche, Hadfield, Corboy and Aubin. Motion lost. According to notice Cr. Roche moved "That a special grant be made to the Alexandra Town Board, of a sum equal to 3s 6d in the £ on the amount of rates collected during the year ended March 31, 1879." As an amendment Cr. Steele moved " That a sum of £7 10s be granted to the Alexandra Town Board as a credit against the amount advanced by the Council for the Mangapiko Bridge." For the amendment : Crs. Cunningham, Steele, Hadfield and Aubin. Against Crs. Buttle, Roche and Corboy. Amendment carried. Cr. Hadfield moved " That a distribution of 3s in the £ on rates collected be made to Road Boards." Carried. Cr. Corboy moved "That a special grant be given to the Newcastle District Board, to be expended on the old Wbata-whata-Hamilton road, in order to enable settlers to get to the Rpilway-station." This motion lapsed for want of a seconder. Accounts amounting to £67 12s 7d were passed and the Council rose.
