CAMBRIDGE WATER SUPPLY.
A pkofosal based upon tlio following estimates has been made by Mr Gwynneth. His proposition is to take the water from springs situated at a level 300 feet above that portion of the town upon which the Church of England is built. The run of water is estimated at about 50, 000 gallons per day, which, at 20 gallons per head, would be sufficient for the supply of 2,500 of a population. With a store reservoir of sufficient capacity, a supply for 5,000 could be obtained. The cost to bring the water into Vic-toria-street is estimated as follows :—: — Pipes, say £1,500 ; lead for joints, 1220 ; jointing and laying, £480 ; reservoir, &c, £400 ; contingencies, say £300 ; engineering and other expenses, £300. — Total, £3,000. Pipes for reticulation are not included ]in this estimate, as the cost of these would vary according to the quantity required, and would be the same under any scheme of supply. It would include the reticulation ot one mile of the township, from the eastern town belt to Victoria-street.
