Dunedin, Tuesday.
Nearly £6000 was paid in property tax yesterday. In the course of yesterday's bankruptcy proceedings, Justice Gillies stated his intention of refusing to grant an order of discharge to a debtor in any case where there were no assets, unless the debtor came into Court with a resolution from his creditors asking- for his discharge. Mr McKay, counsel for a bankrupt, was taken by suprise at his Honor's ruling, and stated that the rule here hitherto had been to grant a debtor his discharge when there was no opposition. The Governor and suite visited the hoad of the Lake Wakatipu to-day, and will return to Dunedin direct to-morrow. The officers of volunteers in this district have decided not to take part in the Queenstown camp, but will camp out at North Otago if the Government supply tents. Yesterday. The amount of propprty tax collected in Dunedin to date is £39,000, exclusive of Bums to bo received from the postmasters in country district s. Aftsr the Executive Council meeting to-night Mr Oliver leaves for the North, the Premier returning with the Governor to-morrow,
