ORIGINAL POETRY. "HOME, SWEET HOME."

There is an isle — a bonnie isle — That decks the western sea : Where beauty dwells in eve.y scene, Though not all bright, but free. Its valleys clothed in emerald green — High, high its mountains rear ; I love this isle— this bonnie isle — For my childhood's home is there. Its noble sons, in battle fierce, Are warlike, bold and brave ; Their honest hearts are proud — not one Would yield to be a slave. Its daughters, virtuous and good, Are beauteous, sweet, and fair; I love this isle— this bonnie isle— For ray childhood's home is there. And though in foreign climes I be, My memory back will roam, To that dear isle, 50 sweet and fair, Where lies my native home. Though other lands more sunny are, Erin— for thee alone I care. I love this isle— this bonnie isle — For my childhood 3 home is there. Te Awamutu, Feb. 21, 1881.
