Champion Sculling M atch. London, February 14.

The sculling race between Edward Hanlan and Elias Laycok, for £500 a-side and the Championship of England, and the Sportsman Challenge Cup, took place to-day over the usual course on the Thames, between Putn«y and Mortlake. The weather was good and water smooth, and the banks of the river were lined with spectators throughout the course. Betting was 4to 1 on Hanlan. A good Start was effeoted. Hanlan commenced with 35, andLaycock with 38 strokes a minute. Hanlau at once took the lead, and was a length or more ahead at Simons' yard, and two lengths ahead at the Mile Point. At this point Laycock made a splendid spurt, and Hanlan' s lead was for a time materially decreased, but the latter again rapidly drew ahead, and was four lengths in advance of Laycook at Barnes' Bridge. He continued to increase the lead, and reached the winning-post several lengths ahead, having led from the start to the finish, and completed the distance in 25 minutes 41 seconds.
