THE WAIKATO TURF CLUB. Summer Meeting.
The Summer Meeting under the auspices of the Waikato Turf Club commences today on the Club's course, Ohaupo road, and promises in a sporting sense to eclipse any of the former meetings held at the same place, good as many of them have undoubtedly been. With the exception of the " Derby " all the events are likely to be keenly contested by good horsea, and it is not at all improbable that even that may prove of some interest. Fine weather seems to be all that is wanting to make the meeting a thorough success from a financial point of view, and there can be little doubt on that score. It is possible enough that the attendance of the public may not be as large as on former oceosions, but that, in the present dull time3, must not be wondered at. A Jarge number of visitors from outside the Waikato arrived by last night's train, including many well-known patrons of the turf, with a slight sprinkling of the " talent. 1 ' We understand that the Committee have made very complete arrangements for the convenience and comforb of those interested. The Hamilton Amateur Band, under Bandmaster Calon will be in attendance aud play selections at intervals between the races. The booths will be under the efficient management of Mr Gwynne, of the Hamilton Hotel. Facilities for reaching the course will be afforded by the Steam Navigation Company, the Delta being advertised to leave Ngaruawahia at 8 a.m., and Hamilton at 10 a.m. on both days. Mr Moffliu will run a coach also on both days, while numerous other couveyances will also be but into requisition. Concerning the probabilities of the racing our sporting correspondent writes : — For the HANDICAP HURDLES. Lone Hand, if he is sent for it, but it seems likely that his owner will reserve him for the Handicap. I should not be surprised to see HARHY MOUNT pass the judges box first, with SPORTSMAN in his wake. the maidek plate. Kennilworth 1 RoSARINA 2 tube club handicap. Kino Quail 1 Hippocampus 2 president's stakes. I expect to see Mr Walters' choice pull this event off. There is a great deal of talk, however, abou., Maori (late Auckland), who followed Chester in the late Melbourne Cup. He ig not to be held too cheap, and no doubt he will make the pace warm from start to finish. Blue Gown.
