HAMILTON LIGHT INFANTRY VOLUNTEERS. TO THE EDITOR.
Sib,— l was very much surprised to see, on reading this day's issue of the Waikato Times, a " local" re the meeting of the above corps, that statements are made so inaccurate as to place me in an unpleasantly false position with the members of the corps. You state that "it was only with the greatest difficulty that a quorum could be obtained. " This statement I beg to contradict, as there were 19 efficient members of the company present Again, I, as captain, did not announce that I would order a. parade on Thursday, and that members not attending would be fined. It was proposed, seconded, and unanimously carried, "That there be a parade on Thursday next, at 7.30 p.m., and that the captain be requeßted to call in the arms and instruments of all members absent without leave, or a sufficient excuse for their absence." You state: "Should the bandsmen refuse to fall-in, he would take measures to deprive them of their instruments." This is drawn from the inventive faculty of your informant, as no such statement was made by me. — I am, &c, T. Dawsok, Captain H L.I.V. Hamilton, Feb. Ist, 1881.
