Terrible Hurricane and Snowstorm in England. -Thousands rendered Homeless.
J ondo.v, Jan. 2S. A Imvticaiic and biiowhtonn, unprecedented m Jury, swept over the greater pait of England, causing incalculable destruction to pioperty, ami imolving great loss of life. The storm lagcd dm mg Tuesday night with appalling force, &weeping everything before it. Within the recollection of no one living has such a calamity visited any part of i^^he United Kingdom. On the Western Coast the hurricane 1 raged most furiously. Traffic on the railway lines with London was abandoned, through the damage done to the lines and rolling-stock. The condition of thousands of homeless people is pitiful in the extreme. The Thames ovei flowed its banks and submerged large areas of land. At Woolwich the pier was entirely demolished, and everywhere the disaster nnd devastation is incalculable. The shipping loss on the Thames is very aerious. The weather continues inclement, and generally of a severe character; Violent snowstorms of long duration have again occurred in Europe and America.
