INTERCOLONIAL.
* The Intercolonial Conference. Sydney, January 25. The Intercolonial Conference met again to-day. The report of the Select Committee, which was appoiuted to inquire into the powers possessed by the High Commission ir for the Western Pacific, was brought up and adopted, with the view to representation being made to the Home Government on the subject. A motion in favour of colonial free tiade in wines was introduced, but, after discussion, was rejected. The question of the rejection of the Chinese immigration throughout the colonies was again under consideration, and a considerable difference of opinion on the subject was shown. Victorian, and Now South Wales representatives favouied the adoption of the draft Bill which was before the Conference, but the Tasmanian, South Australian, andNew Zealand delegates supported the Bill which is in operation in Queensland. The report of the committee appointed to prepare a memorial to tiie Imperial Government on the subject of the Western Australian scheme for the introduction of Chinese was brought up and adopted. It was further decided to submit the same to the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
