VISIT OF His Excellency the Governor TO WAIKATO. Arrival at Hamilton.

The special train conveying Hia Excellency and suite, arrived at the Hamilton, junction at about 12 minutes past 11 yesterday. Mr F. A. Whitaker, M.H.R. , Messrs K. Hill and Gwynne, of the reception committee, with Lieut. Colonel Lyon were in waiting on the platform and received the party on alighting from the Carriage. The Vice Regal partly consisted of His Excellency the Governor, the Hon. the Attorney General, and Oapt. Knollys A.D.C., Mr Murray, Private Secretary to the Governor, and Mr Browne Prrivate Secretary to the High Commissioner. His Lordship, the Bishop of Auckland was also of the party. The train which consisted of an engine and two first-class carriages with van, was under the charge of Mr Maodonald, District Manager of railways, Auckland. About 20 members of the Hamilton Troop Waikato Cavalry, under the command ot Lieut. Johnson and Sub-Lieut. Hunt, were drawn up near the platform, and on the approach of His Excellency towards the carriage which was to convey him to the town, saluted. The ViceRegal carriage was drawn by four horses, the ribbons being handled by Mr Ben. Edwards. In it were His Excellency, the hon. Mr Wlntaker, the Bibhop of Auckland, and Captain Knollys. The rest of the party were driven to town in the A. C. wagonette, and one ot Mr Mofflin's carriages. About a dozen of the general public were at the station and consequently there was no demonstration. Escorted by the Cavalry the party pioceeded to the town. At the Borough Council Chambeis the procession was met by the Hamilton Light Infantry Band who preceeded it to the triumphal arch playing selections ot martial aus. The aicli, winch had been put up the previous day, presented a fair appearance gaily decked as it was with banners, and under tins the leading carriage was met by the Mayor of Hamilton, (Mr John Knox) and the Town Clerk (Mr Gelling). His Excellency and party having alighted the Mayor was* inti oduced by the hon the Attorney ('General, and addressed His Excellency as follows : "I have much pleasure, on behalf of the burgesses, in welcoming your Excellency to Hamilton, on this your tirst vist to Waikato. I trust your tour will result in plea^u j to yourself and benefit to this district and the colony. The Town Clerk then read the addiess which had been prepared, and which haf> already been published in these columns. His Excellency replied. He thanked them veiy much for the expressions of loyalty made to him as the representative of Her Majesty the Queen, and reciprocated the good wishes to which they had given utterance. He trusted that, as they had said, his Government would be the means of conferring- a lading benefit on the whole colony. The Mayor then called for three cbeers for His Excellency, which were heartily given, the number of spectator* at tin's time amounting to several hundred:?. The balcony of Gwynno's Hotel was crowded with ladies and children, while faces were to be seen in all the windows in the stieet. As the Governor moved away towards the Hotel Mheie ho lunched the Bmd played the National Anthem, and afterwoods took up a position in the middle of the street wheio they discoursed a vaiiety of ahs The cortoge re-assembled in fiont of the hotel at 3 p.m. in the older in which it had arrived and on biiug joined by His Excellency and suite matched off in tho direction of Cambridge. Airiving at the town bouudaiy Hamilton East tho bulk of the processioncrs returned to town while the Governor and suite accompanied by orderlies proceeded in the direction of Cambridge.
