THE BEET-ROOT SUGAR INDUSTRY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— ln these days of excitement about the Te Aroha Goldfields. I hope that those farmers who obtained beet seed from the Messrs Graham will not. forget to look after the beet plants, and pull them at the proper weight — say not over 31bs each— and to forward them for analysis to Messrs Graham, together with the particulars as requested in the circular of those gentlemen, relative to the soil the beets were grown in, manure used, and name of seedi &c. t may state that one of Auckland's prominent financial men informed me that the capital for a beet factory in Waikato (£30,000) can be got readily enough if a paying percentage of sugar is found in these roots—hence the importance of these experiments to Waikato farmers, whose' lands will be increased pounds per acre in value if this industry can be established among them. I trust, sir, that you will keep this matter before the pubjic.— l am, &c, , . R. R. Hunt. Ponsonby, Auckland, Jan. 10, 1881-
