WHATAWHATA RATEPAYERS. TO THE EDITOR.

Sib, — I see a letter in your issue of the Ist instant from Henry Byron. That gentleman says, " The Whatawhata ratepayers, persuaded by Mr Corboy," &c. I can inform Henry Byron that neither Corboy's persuasion nor Byron's sophistry will avail in changing the determination of the ratepayers of this district from having their rates spent by the men they have elected for that purpose, and not by men who would foist themselves, as a Board, on to the district. Mr Byron knows well that the real cause of all this agitation and litigation originated before Mr Corboy came to reside in the district. The fact is this : The best line of road, r laid, out by the Government surveyor, does' not happen to run along the frontage to Mr Byron's property, and he would fain spend our rates, cut up Mr Boinfrey's farm, and spoil the easy traffic of tte district, to make it do so. Mr Byron may rest assured that neither persuasion nor coercion can elude the ratepayers from their determination to resist any such injustice. — Yours, &c, A Ratepayer. Whatawhata, January 5.

Mr James Logan, of Te Mata, gives notice that fowls, pies, &c, found on his property will be destroyed. Richard Reynolds, Esq., Chairman Pukekura Highway Board convenes a. meeting of ratepayers to elect two trustees on Monday, January 17. Captain James McPherson, invites tenders for road ploughing-.' Speoial attention is called to the price list of the Rbdandw Manufacturing Co., of Boston, published in these columns. All those wishing to secure an excellent and correct timekeeper arc reconimcndcd to address themselves to this old and reliable firm . No further evidence of their manufactures will be required beyond the follpwiner facts: The firm was established in ' 1849, and'^Hjce' then have gamed prize medals at the Exhibitions of Londdnf Pans!
