Auckland Race Club.- Summer Meeting. SECOND DAY.
Saturday morning wore a very threatening aspect, which wag not improved at noon, when a heavy shower of rain fell, which was the means of keeping large numbers away. As the da,y advanced, however, there was a larger concourse. The grand stand was not as well patron - wed as on the first day. The following are the events :— Derby Stakes; a sweepstakes of 10 soys. each, with 100 soys. added. Colts, Bst. lOlbs.; fillies, Bst 51bs. Distance, lj miles Mr. J. Smith's Tim Whiffler, 3yrn, Bst. lOlbs (Wattie) 1 Mr. R. Farmer's blk q Rewi,3yra, Bst. lOlbs (Williams) 2 Mr. J. Lennard's eh o Kenilworth 3yrs, Bst. lOlbs (Derr'itt) 3 Vortex, Florence, and Rosarina were scratched. Betting: Even on Keuilworth, 2 to 1 against Tim Whiffler, 4 to 1 against Rewi and Moonstone, 10 to 1 against Prince Charlie. The start was a poor one, but that fractious colt Prince Charlie managed to spring into a good position, and led past the grand stand, with Woolbroker second, and Pewi third. This order was maintained to the back of the course, where Kenilworth came to terms with the advanced guards Rewi taking the lead, which he maintained to the straight. Here Wattie caUed upon Tim Whiffler, who, answering gamely, passed Kenilworth and Rewi in succession winning by three lengths. There was a good race for second place which was scoured by Rewi. Time, 2min. 56|seca. Publicans' Purse of CO soys., with a sweepstakes of 2 soys. each ; the amount accruing from sweepstakes to go to second horse. Matthews, the rider of Foul Play on Saturday, has written to the Stewards demanding an inquiry, declaring the horse was ridden fairly when beaten by Libeller on Saturday. , A deposit was made in a challenge by McDonald to back Foul Flay against Libeller, on the same course and with the same weights as on Saturday, but it is understood the event will not come off.
TO-DAY'S RACES. PRODUCE STAKES. Walmsley's Moonstone, Bst. lOlbo. ... 1 Walters' Rosarina, Bst. olbs 2 Prince Charlie 3 Walters' filly made play with the in- ! side running, Prince Charlie making his usual brilliant attempt along the straight, and then died out. Rosarina led by a length into the cutting, when Moonstone challenged him, and raced into the straight, Moonstone coming up very strong at the finish, and won by half-a-length. ' /. s ' '■ " . ' '!

Agent led into Bowman's garden with Sportsman in company, Don Juan and the Ghost jumping in good style not far away. Some came up again 'with' the big grey, ' bui Lone ' Hand refawd every thing, and was walked in to "the" disgust of numerous backers Agent and Sportsman leaped together out of Smith's green oats. Jack Shepherd at this stage had passed the Stand", and the. ridjßr fell off at the made wall- on, the course.-, Crossing the road towards Crowthers Don Juan ' stuck up and" loSt his chance ; Agent, slightly in advance of Sportsman, lead off from this point hard held. All ' jumps to the course were taken in excellent form by both horses. /\The last hurdle in the straight was" taken by Agent ; half-a-length in front of the waikato horse. An exciting struggle up the straight on the part of Sportsman made no difference in position of horses! At the close Sportsman -was loudly applauded for hifl performance. Time : liming. (sst. 121b5.), also ran. t<\ Lara was the only horse scratched, Nine horses ran. This was the best race, of the meeting. After a fast race, in which Foul Play made the running to the turn of the straight, Libeller, came through his, horses, and won by a length, Foul Play being under the whip. Time, 2mins. 4secs.
