The shot struck the instep of the left foot, tearing the boot open, and glancing upwards inflicted severe injuries to the right leg and groin. The poor lad was immediately conveyed to the house and a messenger despatched for a doctor, but none could be found in Hamilton, and consequently the su fferer had to be conveyed to Hamilton, wheie he was attended by Dr Carey, who did all in his power to alleviate the patient's sufferings. He was then taken home again. Last nitfht Mr Knox drove Dr Sandes out to the boy's house. The doctor found him progressing favorably, the only danger to be apprehended would be from inflammation, as the gun was loaded with small stones. The doctor remained with him all last night.
