WHAT AW HAT A.
Highway Matters. At a meeting held last Saturday evening regarding the rival Road Boards, it was resolved "That as the other side had failed to agree to the reasonable terms offered them, Mr Day proceed with the appeal at once." So we shall shortly know, asMr Northcroft said, who is the real Simon Pure. Considerable dissatisfaction is being shown at our local Race Committee choosing the same day for the races that the Ngaruawahia people have done. Ngaruawaliia was first in the field, and therefore had a right to choose her day ; and our Race Committee, if they wish for a good attendance, should try and alter their day. Our neighbors will give larger prizes than we can, and we shall have the pleasure of seeing horses run that are not considered good enough for the larger races, and it may also cause a feeling of illwill between the two places, which lam sure the stewards of our races are not desirous of doing. The usual quarterly sale took place to-day. There was a small muster of stock, and prices ruled low. — [Own Correspondent, Dec. I.]
