TE AROHA.
There is very little to i elate that is new concerning the new goldfield. Since our last issue, a large number of people have left for the scene of operations — many merely bent on pleasure or actuated by motives of curiosity, but the majority with the object of remaining. On .Sunday at least a hundred people must have traversed the road between Piako and the Waihou, some of them having gone by way of the Victoria Koad from Cambridge. The weather was fine, and those who went for pleasure enjoyed themselves thoroughly, notwithstanding the amount of hard climbing which had to be done before the centre of attraction — the Prospectors' claim — could be reached. Those who went up on Sunday saw little, as the reef had been covered up. It was intended, however, to put on a party of men yesterday morning to open up the ground, but it is not supposed that much will be done till the opening day (Thursday) except at the drive below. There must be now about 500 men on the field and several buildings have been erected, comprising a baker's and butcher's establishment. Several parties left Hamilton yesterday, one consisting of half-a-dozen prominent settlers, taking in their waggon every requisite for setting up a camp on the latest and most approved principle. A large number of people may be expected to go out tomorrow to witness the opening.
