CAMBRIDGE CAVALRY CORPS.

Tub annual meeting of the Cambridge Cavalry Corps was held at the Public Hall on Saturday afternoon, C ipfc. Runciman in the chair. Tho first business submitted was the consideration of cet'taiu resolutions that had been parsed by tho H iinilton Contingent regarding the o.ipitation withdrawal. The whole of the resolutions were read to the meeting and then discussed. The following woro those adopted: — The iir.st pro'poW by Lieut. Fibber, and seconded by Corporal Forrest, "That owing 1 to the financial condition of the colony, this Corps is willing to accept a reduction in the allowance hitherto made." 2nd. Proposed by Corporal Fisher and seconded by B mdsman Miller, " That the Corpß respectfully bpg to point out to the Government the following facts:— lst. The terms under which the Cavalry Volunteers were originally enrolled ; 2nd, the fact that the existence of the Cavalry in Waikato has already saved, and we believe will continue to save the colonyconsiderable sums of money by obviating the necessity of retaining the services of a large body of Constabulary along the frontier." Lieut. Fisher spoke of the great importance of this resolution, and said there was not a doubt in the opinion of settlers and Volunteers that it was a great saving to the country and a preservative of the peace. Corporal Forrest here referred to a letter of Major Jackson's, written to the Government at the time of Sullivan's murder, wherein it stated that iv less than three hours after the news reached C.imbri ge tsvo companies were in marching trim, and ready for any emergency that might eventuate. On the resolution being put to the meeting, it was carried with loud acclamation. The seconded fourth and fifth resolutions, as passed by the Hamilton Contingent, were not adopted. The next resolution was proposed by Lieutenant Kirkwood and seconded by Trooper Brown; "that this troop respectfully request that the Government will take the foregoing resolutions into their serious consideration, as it is of the greatest importance to the interest of this district that the Cavalry corps should be kept intact. ' ' Proposed by Lieutenant Fib'ier and seconded by Bandsman Sharp "that the resolutions parsed should bo forw irdeil to the Government and the other troops, viz. Te Awamutu and Hamilton, through Major Jackson. Some discussion ensued regarding the coming visit of the Thames Volunteers when Lieutenant Fisher pioposed and bugler Cimp seconded ' ' that this corps, as a portion of the W. C. Y. consider it necessary to assist in fulfilling the promise made to the Thames Volunteers last Easter." Carried iftn con. Proposed hy Bandsman Camp, and seconded by Tiooper H. Fergusson, that a committee of seven bo appointed as tho Cambridge portion of the Thames Entertainment Committee. Capt. Euucinnn, Lieut Fisher and Kirkwood to represent the Troop, vith power to consult the settlers and trades people for the remainino: four. Correspondence was lead in reference to the district living, which will take place on the Ist December nnew,x w , when it was proposed that Corpor.ils Hicks ami lluncimau be nomimted as scrutineers ;it Hamilton. In the matter of the Regimental Belt to bo fired for, it was proposed tho discussion should stand adjourned till next meeting, as no reply had been received from the Government. A challenge was by the Band to the non-representative s, which was accepted, firing to take place next Saturday week, 20fch November.
