'Ihe Sewing Machine made by tho Singer Sewing Manufacturing Company aie acknowledged by common consent to be b\ tar the host Sewing Mac bines that mechanical ingenuity has been able to pioducc. Mthough the Singer Sewing Machines are cotnparathely late in the held, yet the extraordinary demand for them during the past iew > ears— as indicated by the successive annual sales— has obliged this enteiprising company to increase their Factories to an extent that seems almost incredible. The largest of threo Factories ts at Elizabeth, New Jersey. Here, the main budding has 1,100 feet frontafj ; Forging Shops, 700 ieet ; Foundry, 600 feet by 101 feet; Cabinet Shop, 200: Packing Shops, 200 feet. The main building has four floors ; the Cabinet and Packing Shops ha\e each three floors. Entire works employ 3,500. The Yard < ontains 6 miles railroad tracks. There are also Factories at, or near, the City of Glasgow, and the dimensions of these works may be imagined, when we say that 2,500 here, as at the American Woiks, find constant employment. The turnout of Machines alone is 10,000 e\ery week, or, at the rate of soo.ooo (half a million) for the current jear. Ihe \arious parts and new accessories, needle, oil, &c, &c, required for the 3,500,000 Sewii q Machines, which arc in use all over the world — th^se demand special attention and much laboi . A Staff of Skilled Mechanics and Sewing Machine Experts is alw.ijs cmplojcrt for the sole puipose oi making every possible Mechanical Impiovcmcnt on the Machines and accessories.
