HIBERNIAN -AUSTRALASIAN CITHOLIC BENEFIT SOCIETY. — WAIKATO BRANCH NO. 153.
The opening of this Society in Waikato was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Hamilton, on the 18th hist., President Patrick Lynch in the chair. Past-President W. J. Connolly and Bio. Win. Doran (of the Auckland Branch), and Bro. O'Sullivan (of the (risborne Branch), were present. P.P. W. J. Connolly read the authority from the Executive Directory at Melbourne authorising the opening of the new branch at Hamilton : the Chairman (President Lynch) read the opening address ; the acting .Secretary read the J>ispetus.ition ; and the President declared the Wailcato Branch No. 153 duly opened. Tnc Secretary read medical certificates fiom the ssiirgcon on behalf of a large number of candidates, and they being in attendance were duly balloted for, and being elected were duly initiated. Bro. E. Mditirrigle proposed and Bro. Crosby seconded, " That the clearance of Bro. M. O'Sullivan, ummber of the Gisborne Branch, be accepted."— Carried unanimously.
Election of Officers. According to the rules of the Society, there are bix electhe officers in each branch, viz. : President, Vice-President, •Secretary, Treasurer, Warden, and Guardian. The following gentlemen Mere duly elected as officers : — Bro. E. McGarrigle was unanimously elected President ; Bro. J. Crosby, Vicc-Presidcnt ; Bro. J. Daly, Secretary; Bro. O'Sullivan, Treasurer; Bro. Murphy, Warden ; and Bro. Bolton, Guardian. There were two sick visitors appointed — Bro. Jones and Bro. O'Connor. P.P. Connolly installed the newlyelected officers, who individually returned thanks for the honor conferred upon them. President E. McGarrigle, V.P. Crosby, and Sick Visitor W. Jones were elected Trustees. A vote of thanks to the officers who came to open the branch was carried unanimously. The officers referred to suitably responded. The Eev. Father Golden, who was present during the evening, addressed the meeting at some length, counselling the new members to attend strictly to the obligations they had incurred, and pointing out the beneficial effect their conduct would have on Catholics in general by strictly observing the rules of H.A.C.B. Society. On the newly-elected President being installed, he was received with acclamation. He replied, returning thanks to the officers and brothers who "had paid him the high honor of electing him the first President of their branch, and hoped that at the expiration of his term of office they would have no cause to complain of his conduct, concluding as follows :— " Officers and brethren,— The business of the meeting being now concluded, I thank you for the* attention given it, and for the marked respect shown to the President and officers during its transaction. I now declare this meeting closed. " [The next meeting will be duly notified in the columns of this journal.]
