A HBETrNU of the South Auckland Cattle Board w.is held at the Fanners' Club, Camb idjre, o<~ Monday afternoon. Presont, Me-W". M uiloan (ohairm m), Forgmson,Fantham. Inspector Runcimau was also present. A letter wag received from Mr Storey tendering his resignation, which was accepted. Inspector Runciman's reports of his vivsits to the W.iikato Lmd Associations property and Mr Bnrke'.s farm were Hme read, and he recommended that the restrictions should not yet bo removed from either place. The following telegrams relating- to the mob of cattle driven by Payru thro-igh the Waikato Laud Associations propeity to Messrs Morrin and S hid holme's Station a short time since, will .show a good reason for the strong 1 condemnatory expressions of the Board towards the Government: — [II(.IOK\MS.] Wellington, September 24, 1880. Every Maclean, Kiq.,— Pri'intor desires mo to inform joh that Government are adW'ivl th.it unless tin 1 [inspector ( .in declare th.it disease evists on Morrtn ,md Studholme's property, there is no le^.il .uithoritv to declare tli it propeitv, or part of it, i-. .111 infec ted place. There is, therefore, no le^il power to comply with the request contained m your telegram of lfith inst. (Signed) D. M\uvskll.
Cambridge, September 2^, 1880. Hon. J. Hall,— The .Hoard is of opinion that all roads through the Piaku Land Association's property, whether tenced or unfenred, should be proclaimed an infected place. For if cattle travel on these loads in the same way Messrs Morrin and Studholme's have, they become diseased. If these roads ate not included in the proclamation, the .Board's function, for all the good it docs to the district, might as well cease. The Inspector reports th.it he has, on two occasions lately, seen cattle belonging to the Piako Land Association on the road on which Messrs Morrin and Studholme's cattle were driven. (Signed) EvtRY MAu.fcW.
Every Maclean, Esq., — Proclamation of the 3rd July, .880, declared the whole of the estate of ihe Waikato Land Association to be an infected place ; therefore all roads within the estate are infected and under sections 26 and 27, Act 1871 ; no cattle can be removed therefrom without the permission of the Inspector. When any cattle arc driven into an infected place and removed therefrom, they come under sections 6 and 7 of Ordor-in-Council, March, 1880, and can be dealt with as thorein provided. Should your Board think further general regulations under section n,ActiB7i, necessary to prevent cattle being driven into or throug-h infected places, to which the}' arc so driven a quarantine, the matter will be fully considered on the Premier's return from Canterbury. Please reply. (Signed) D. Mau.vsi.u,.
